Over the past decade, Spear has helped over 2,500 young people into employment or education. Since Spear was launched in Hammersmith in 2004, we have grown to eight centres across London, working with over 750 young people each year. We have ambitious expansion plans for the years ahead.  Preparing Young People The Spear course is our pre-employment training programme.
Spear equips young people with the hard skills they need to find a job, including CV writing and interview training
Our approach also tackles the attitudinal and behavioural issues that employers cite as major barriers to long-term success in their young recruits
Each Spear attendee leaves with increased confidence, skills to find work and a City & Guilds Level 1 Qualification in Customer Service.
Ten years ago Spear started in West London with one small class of five students. Of those who graduate from the course, 75% are still in employment or training a year later. Equipping Employers Our experienced recruitment team work with forward-thinking businesses to place Spear candidates – those who have shown particularly strong aptitude, attitude and motivation – into suitable vacancies. We are experts in coaching, helping employers create a culture where entry-level staff grow and achieve their full potential:
Entry-level employees receive in-work coaching
Their managers receive training to equip them with coaching tools to tackle performance issues, enhance motivation and improve staff retention.
We are a trusted partner for many businesses as they seek to build teams that are diverse, motivated and high-performing from the ground up. Spear’s end-to-end service supports your business every step of the way. Spear won the 2015 ERSA Youth Employment award for our ‘exceptional commitment to delivery employment services to young people’. Spear was also a Guardian Charity Awards 2013 winner.

Our parish of St Mary’s Cadogan Street is one of the oldest Roman Catholic parishes in Central London. Priests and people have met and offered Mass in various buildings around the parish since 1794. The church, rectory, almshouses and schools are only 4 minutes from Sloane Square and the underground station. Our area is filled with people both local and international. Many people have lived here all their lives but they are joined by a large number of people from other parts of Europe, the USA, the Philippines and people from South America and Africa. In fact the parish has a truly international feel about it.
Worship at St Mary’s is never dull. The Sunday masses are always offered with reverence but the style does vary. There is a relaxed 10am Mass where families squeeze in together with their buggies and children’s scooters, a more reflective Sung Mass filled primarily with young adults at 6.30pm and the Solemn Mass with its Latin chants and settings, sung by our totally volunteer Latin Choir at 11.30am;  add to these a simple vigil Mass at 6.30pm on Saturday and you will realise that here is a church for anyone and everyone.

We are transforming St Mary Abbots Church, so it can continue to support the heart of Kensington for generations to come.  Once we have built the kitchen and toilets (including disabled and baby changing facilities) the church will be a more comfortable place to worship, a more welcoming place to visit and a practical place to gather the Kensington community.

Our magnificent font will be repaired and re-positioned, as befits the importance of baptism and the prominent role of children within our church.  An area will be cleared, creating opportunities to gather after services and an accessible, single level, space for use by other groups in the Kensington community.  We will also create a glass lobby at the West Door, keeping the wooden doors open, bringing in daylight and showing our doors are open to all.
