WELR Big Local

Project Officer

Hours of work:             32 hours per week (including evening and weekend work to be agreed in advance).

Salary:                         £25,000 per annum

Holiday:                       Pro rata based on 32 hours, your holiday entitlement will be 160 hours per annum with 52 hours per annum for Bank & Public holidays

Employed by:               WELR Staff are employed by CVSBEH whose terms of contract will apply.

Responsible to:           This role will report to the WELR Project Manager who will provide day-to-day line-management.   

Location:        The WELR Office base is Worlds End and Lots Road Big Local, Unit 8, Worlds End Place, Worlds End Estate, Chelsea, London, SW10 0HE.

Purpose of Job: To assist the Project Manager and resident led Partnership to deliver local project priorities identified in the Big Local Plan. To guide the tone, brand and message of some WELR external communications. Working closely with WELR’s residents, Partnership and other relevant, involved stakeholders to support and enable a programme of events and activities.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Support WELR’s partnerships by bringing organisations and individuals in the WELR area together, to work collectively to support and empower the local community to improve the quality of their lives.
  • Work in partnership with people from seldom heard communities in the WELR area, support opportunities which aim to improve health, wellbeing, educational outcomes in line with WELR’s Big Local Plan
  • Collate data and feedback WELR projects and activities
  • Support WELR Project Manager to write evaluations and monitoring reports
  • Research relevant information about the WELR area as well as gaps and needs of the local community
  • Engage local residents in activities related to WELR’s priorities
  • Have responsibility for GDPR across day-to-day operations of the health and well-being programme.

Promotion/ communication responsibilities

  • Raise the profile and greater awareness of WELR and their activities
  • Guide the tone, brand and message of WELR public communications
  • Support the production of flyers/posters liaising with a graphic designer when necessary
  • Create content for WELR’s social media platforms and upload it on each relevant communication channel e.g. website and Facebook
  • Gather, write and proof-read content for website, newsletter, leaflets, posters & press releases.
  • Co-ordinate the publicity, filming and photography of events for PR purposes
  • Catalogue media and press activity and create/manage an image library

Administration responsibilities

  • Take minutes at WELR partnership meetings and other meetings where necessary
  • Provide administrative support for identified WELR meetings, including minute taking and organising meeting spaces
  • Provide administration support and diary management for senior staff and WELR Chair where appropriate
  • Set up equipment for online classes and meetings
  • File all invoices, contracts, all other relevant documents, when the other staff member is not present
  • Update WELR’s database
  • Update notice boards outside the hub with WELR’s latest projects and activities 

General

  • Promote, publicise and signpost local people to WELR activities, services and events.
  • Work in a collaborative way with all relevant stakeholders. These include local residents, community groups, voluntary organisations and faith groups.
  • Collect case studies to help demonstrate WELR’s impact.
  • Liaise with other WELR staff to develop and implement a co-ordinated programme of outreach, communication, and publicity
  • Perform other tasks consistent with the general responsibilities and respond to new challenges in the area as they arise e.g. prepare refreshments for some of the projects and activities
  • Undertake out of hours and weekend work as the role requires for which TOIL will be granted.
  • Keep accurate project records, analysing statistics and produce written reports as required.
  • Attend staff meetings, supervision and organisational events as required.
  • Attend appropriate training and development sessions as required.
  • Work within the policies and procedures of Community Alliance Broxbourne and East Herts.
  • Undertake any other tasks not stipulated but within the spirit and level of the role.

Person Specification

Essential

  1. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and able to interact with a variety of people in the community
  2. Positive attitude, able to take the initiative and work well independently
  3. A good team player
  4. Experience of helping with events and activities and monitoring outcomes.
  5. Skilled at building productive relationships.
  6. Experience of working effectively with volunteers.
  7. Good at time management and juggling different tasks.
  8. Knowledge and understanding of community development and social issues.
  9. Excellent ICT and administration skills including record keeping, file management and report writing, use of emails and Word and Excel.
  10. Comfortable being WELR’s representative at activities
  11. Encouraging, friendly and welcoming
  12. Able to motivate people to take part in activities and return to activities
  13. Able to work out of hours and at weekend, if arranged in advance and with support if required.
  14. Committed to equality and diversity and able to apply this within the workplace and community

Desirable

  1. Experience of recruiting and supporting volunteers
  2. Experience of monitoring and evaluating projects.
  3. Good local knowledge of Worlds End area and the issues affecting our local communities
  4. Experience of working within a community setting.
