Sevenoaks began in 1972 as a small, specialist independent hi-fi retailer based on London Road, Sevenoaks, Kent, hence the choice of name. The success and reputation of that single outlet led to the opening of more shops during the following two decades.
In 1995 the name was altered from Sevenoaks Hi-Fi to Sevenoaks Sound & Vision, to better reflect the changing range of products coupled with expanding consumer interest in home cinema. The next step was to launch the Sevenoaks Sound & Vision franchise nationally. Today, Sevenoaks has stores nationwide and is one of the largest independent hi-fi and home cinema retailers in the UK, supported by a custom installation service. Spurred by the meteoric consumer demand for flat screen TVs, this service specialises in the creation and installation of bespoke home entertainment systems to suit all budgets.
